GED Age Requirements for Ohio

To take the Ohio GED test, you must be officially withdrawn from school and be 19 years of age or older. Exceptions to the age requirement may be granted if:

You are 18 years of age :

Have the Superintendent (or designee) of the school district where you last attended (or the district where you live) complete and sign the GED Age Waiver Form. Attach it to your paper application or to the confirmation page from your online application.

You are 18 years of age AND your class has graduated :

Attach an Official School Transcript to your application to show that your class has graduated. If you have been sworn into active military service in one of the armed forces, attach a sworn statement to your application giving the date of the swearing-in ceremony. (Delayed entry candidates do not qualify.)

You are at least 16 years of age, but less than 18 years of age :

The Superintendent (or designee) of the school district where you last attended (or the district where you live) must complete and sign the GED Age Waiver Form. A parent, guardian or court official must sign the GED Parental Consent Form. Attach both forms to your paper application or to the confirmation page from your online application.

What is the cost to take the GED in Ohio?

The test for the General Educational Diploma (GED) costs $65 or you can earn a fee waiver to take the GED test for free! To earn a free test, contact the State of Ohio GED office for fee waiver programs and schedule a date to take the official practice test. If you pass with at least a 410 in each subject and an average of 450 for all five subjects, you have earned your fee waiver.

If you are a graduate of the fast online high school program, you are eligible for one email verification completion. For graduates of the honor's high school diploma course, one email and phone verification is included as a standard with the graduation package. Our updated verification process provides an effective way for employers, schools, organizations and more to confirm a gradaute has passed our program. Our high school advisors work on behalf of the graduates to ensure the appropriate representative receives the information approved to be released by the graduate.
