Florida GED Information

Request a Copy of Your Diploma or Transcript:
If you took the General Educational Development (GED) test in Florida and need a copy of your diploma or transcript, the following instructions will help you prepare the request. The GED office is not equipped to fill orders by telephone or via the Internet, we require a written request accompanied by the required fee. Once we receive the written request in the GED office, it takes approximately 5-7 working days for the document to be mailed.

To receive a copy of your diploma or transcript, you should:
  1. Submit a request in writing that includes your name, date of birth, and social security number. We also request that you provide the approximate year the test was taken, and the city or county where the test was taken.
  2. Send a $6 money order or cashier's check made payable to the Florida Department of Education for each copy you are requesting. We do not accept personal checks or cash.
  3. Send an envelope, with postage attached, addressed to where you would like the document mailed. A transcript requires a letter sized envelope with a $.42 stamp. A diploma requires a 10x13 envelope with $1.00 postage attached. If you order both documents, and they are being sent to the same address, send only the 10x13 envelope.
  4. Mail your request to:

How old must I be to take the test?
In the State of Florida GED candidates must be at least 18 years of age or older unless they have been granted a GED age waiver by the local School Board. Contact the GED Chief Examiner in your county to find out how you can qualify to take the GED test if you are 16 or 17 years of age. GED age waiver requirements vary between school districts.

How do I register for the test and how much does it cost?
Candidates must provide either a State of Florida Driver License or State of Florida Identification Card. Candidates should bring their Social Security Cards for further verification of identity. Candidates must complete a GED Test Application Form and pay for the test at the time of registration. The GED complete battery test costs $50 for the entire exam; or the individual test (language Arts/Writing, Social Studies, and Science are $12 each); and Language Arts/Reading or Math is $10 per sub-test.

What kind of diploma will I receive?
GED examinees passing the Official GED Tests will receive a State of Florida High School Diploma. In addition, each examinee receives a transcript of his/her scores.
